Commonwealth Day

Photo courtesy of the Chronicle & EchoThe Flore Commonwealth Day event held at the Millennium Hall on Monday 12th of March was a day to remember – The Queen’s Representative Colonel John Royle  MBE DL Deputy Lieutenant officially unveiled The Commonwealth Wall Hanging, a hand-sewn hanging by Wendy Amos –it is made up of all the Commonwealth flags and flags of the British Overseas Territories.

Also, the newly designed Flore flag designed by Children of Flore church of England Primary School. In a letter following the event the Colonel wrote to the Trustees : ‘ thoroughly enjoyed my 'return' to Flore and especially the splendid interest surrounding the event, did you see the photograph in yesterday's Chronicle and Echo?.  Indeed, I was so impressed that unusually I wrote a report for the Lord Lieutenant, concluding with the remark: 'Superbly organised with just the right atmosphere and the involvement of so many different local people for such an occasion.

In the Picture above you see the Flag in three colours. The fields are dissected diagonally in Gold (Or) representing the Goddess Flora and Purple( Purpure) representing the Indigenous Flore plum. The wavy line forms the River Nene with the White blossom of the Flore plum and local flora. Found inside the blossom are the Stamens, cleverly twisted to express the May Pole ribbons.

A Flore flag was presented to Flore School and we shall also fly this at the War Memorial throughout the year. Many thanks to the children and the Head of Flore School, as well as Philip and Graham from the Flag Institute. The Flore Flag has been registered internationally through the Flag Institute in London and the link to it is
